Punjab Assembly established Punjabi University, Patiala under the Punjab Act No. 35 of 1961. Dr. S. Radhakrishnan, the then President of India laid foundation of Punjabi University on June 24, 1962. He preached, "The institutes of higher education share the burden of nation-building in a critically important sense. Our aim is a strong, free and democratic India where every citizen has an equal place and full opportunity of growth. In this task, a vast responsibility rests on our universities." Established on April 30, 1962 in the erstwhile princely state of Patiala with the main objective of furthering the cause of Punjabi language, art and literature, Punjabi University has since evolved into the largest University in the state. This is the second University in the world to be named after a language, the first being Hebrew University of Israel. Its vision is to establish and incorporate a University for the advancement of Punjabi studies and development of Punjabi language as a medium of instruction or otherwise for providing instruction in humanistic and scientific subjects and generally for the promotion of education and research. The University started working from its present lush green, pollution free, 316 acres campus since 1965.
Initially University’s jurisdiction area was fixed as the 16 km radius having only 9 colleges. In 1969, it grew into an affiliating university, with 43 colleges affiliated to it. Now the university caters to the educational needs of nine Districts of Punjab. Over the time since its inception, the University has evolved into a multi-faceted and multi-faculty educational institution for the promotion of higher education and research in Humanities, Arts, Sciences, Engineering Languages, Technology and many more. Spread over 600 acres of land, its 1500+ teachers are imparting instruction and guidance to nearly 14,000+ students in a multi-faceted, multi-pronged and multi-faculty environment comprising 70+ Teaching and Research Departments/Chairs on its Campus, 27 Regional Centre/ Neighbourhood Campuses/Constituent Colleges and 278 Colleges affiliated to it.
ਪੰਜਾਬ ਵਿਧਾਨ ਸਭਾ ਨੇ 1961 ਦੇ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਐਕਟ ਨੰ. 35 ਅਧੀਨ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਪਟਿਆਲਾ ਦੀ ਸਥਾਪਨਾ 30 ਅਪ੍ਰੈਲ 1962 ਨੂੰ ਕੀਤੀ ਗਈ। ਇਸ ਉਪਰੰਤ ਭਾਰਤ ਦੇ ਰਾਸ਼ਟਰਪਤੀ ਡਾ. ਐਸ. ਰਾਧਾ. ਕ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਨ ਵਲੋਂ 24 ਜੂਨ 1962 ਈ. ਵਿਚ ਇਸਦਾ ਨੀਂਹ ਪੱਥਰ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਗਿਆ। ਉਹਨਾਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਭਾਸ਼ਣ ਵਿਚ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਉੱਚ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲੀਆ ਸੰਸਥਾਵਾਂ ਦੇਸ਼/ਕੌਮ ਦੀ ਉਸਾਰੀ ਵਿਚ ਅਹਿਮ ਯੋਗਦਾਨ ਨਿਭਾਉਂਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ। ਸਾਡਾ ਟੀਚਾ ਲੋਕਤੰਤਰ ਭਾਰਤ ਵਿਚ ਸ਼ਕਤੀਸ਼ਾਲੀ ਅਤੇ ਆਜ਼ਾਦ ਨਾਗਰਿਕ ਬਣਾਉਣਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਹਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਵਧਣ-ਫੁੱਲਣ ਦੀ ਬਰਾਬਰ ਸੰਭਾਵਨਾ ਹੋਵੇ। ਇਸ ਕੰਮ ਲਈ ਅਹਿਮ ਜ਼ਿੰਮੇਵਾਰੀ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀਆਂ ਦੀ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ। ਇਜ਼ਰਾਈਲ ਦੀ ਹਿਬਰੋ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ ਸ਼ਾਹੀ ਰਿਆਸਤ ਪਟਿਆਲਾ ਵਿਚ ਸਥਾਪਤ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਦੁਨੀਆਂ ਦੀ ਅਜਿਹੀ ਦੂਜੀ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਹੈ, ਜੋ ਭਾਸ਼ਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ‘ਤੇ ਸਥਾਪਿਤ ਕੀਤੀ ਗਈ ਹੈ। ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਦਾ ਮੁੱਖ ਮੰਤਵ, ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਭਾਸ਼ਾ, ਸਾਹਿਤ ਅਤੇ ਸਭਿਆਚਾਰ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਚਾਰ-ਪ੍ਰਸਾਰ ਕਰਨਾ ਹੈ। ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਕੇਵਲ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਭਾਸ਼ਾ ਨੂੰ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਹੀ ਕਾਰਜਸ਼ੀਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਬਲਕਿ ਇਸ ਵਿਚ ਵੱਖ-ਵੱਖ ਗਿਆਨ ਖੇਤਰਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਸਬੰਧਿਤ 70 ਦੇ ਲਗਭਗ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਹਨ, ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਜਿੱਥੇ ਸਾਇੰਸ, ਇੰਜੀਨੀਅਰਿੰਗ, ਸੋਸ਼ਲ ਸਾਇੰਸਜ, ਧਰਮ, ਅਰਥ ਸ਼ਾਸਤਰ, ਮਨੈਜਮੈਂਟ ਆਦਿ ਖੇਤਰਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਸਬੰਧਿਤ ਅਧਿਆਪਨ ਕਾਰਜ ਕਰਵਾਇਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਥੇ ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਖੇਤਰਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਜੁੜੇ ਵਿਸ਼ਿਆਂ ਵਿਚ ਐੱਮ.ਫਿਲ ਅਤੇ ਪੀਐੱਚ. ਡੀ ਪੱਧਰ ਦਾ ਖੋਜ ਕਾਰਜ ਵੀ ਕਰਵਾਇਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਨਾਲ ਸਬੰਧਿਤ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਵੱਖ-ਵੱਖ ਖੇਤਰਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਵੱਡੀਆਂ ਮੱਲਾਂ ਮਾਰੀਆਂ ਹਨ। ਜਿਵੇਂ ਫਿਲਮ ਅਤੇ ਸੰਗੀਤ ਜਗਤ ਨਾਲ ਸਬੰਧਿਤ ਵੱਡੇ ਚਿਹਰੇ ਇਸ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਦੇ ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤੇ ਹਨ। ਇਸਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਜੁੜੇ ਵਿਦਵਾਨ ਤੇ ਆਲੋਚਕ ਅੰਤਰ-ਰਾਸ਼ਟਰੀ ਪ੍ਰਸਿੱਧੀ ਰੱਖਦੇ ਹੋਏ ਵਿਸ਼ਵ ਪੱਧਰ ਦੀਆਂ ਕਾਨਫ਼ਰੰਸਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਆਪਣੇ ਮੁੱਲਵਾਨ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਪੇਸ਼ ਕਰਦੇ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ। ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ 316 ਏਕੜ ਦੇ ਹਰੇ-ਭਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਦੂਸ਼ਣ ਮੁਕਤ ਕੈਂਪਸ ਵਿੱਚ 1965 ਤੋਂ ਵਿਦਿਆ ਦਾ ਚਾਨਣ ਵੰਡ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ।
ਸ਼ੁਰੂਆਤ ਵਿੱਚ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਦੇ ਅਧੀਨ 16 ਕਿਲੋਮੀਟਰ ਦੇ ਖੇਤਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਪੈਂਦੇ 9 ਕਾਲਜਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਇਸ ਨਾਲ ਜੋੜਿਆ ਗਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਬਾਅਦ ਵਿੱਚ ਇਹ ਗਿਣਤੀ 43 ਹੋ ਗਈ। ਅੱਜ ਇਹ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਦੇ ਨੌਂ ਜ਼ਿਲ੍ਹਿਆਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਵਿੱਦਿਅਕ ਲੋੜਾਂ ਸੰਪੂਰਨ ਸਮਰੱਥਾ ਨਾਲ ਪੂਰੀਆਂ ਕਰ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ। ਆਰੰਭ ਤੋਂ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਸਮੇਂ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ-ਨਾਲ ਸਰਵ-ਪੱਖੀ ਅਤੇ ਵਿੱਦਿਆ ਲਈ ਸਥਾਪਤ ਇਹ ਵਿੱਦਿਅਕ ਸੰਸਥਾ, ਉਚੇਰੀ ਵਿੱਦਿਆ ਦੇ ਪਾਸਾਰ, ਮਾਨਵਤਾ ਭਲਾਈ, ਹੁਨਰਾਂ, ਵਿਗਿਆਨਾਂ, ਇੰਜੀਨੀਅਰਿੰਗ ਭਾਸ਼ਾਵਾਂ, ਤਕਨਾਲੋਜੀ ਅਤੇ ਹੋਰ ਬਹੁਤ ਸਾਰੇ ਵਿਸ਼ਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਮਿਆਰੀ ਖੋਜ ਕਾਰਜਾਂ ਲਈ ਇੱਕ ਵਰਦਾਨ ਸਿੱਧ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ। 600 ਏਕੜ ਜ਼ਮੀਨ ਤੇ ਫੈਲੀ ਹੋਈ ਇਹ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਜਿਸ ਵਿਚ 1500+ ਦੇ ਲਗਭਗ ਯੋਗ ਅਧਿਆਪਕ 14,000+ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਬਹੁ-ਪੱਖੀ, ਬਹੁ-ਖੋਜੀ ਅਤੇ ਬਹੁ-ਪ੍ਰਤਿਭੀ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਬਹੁਤ ਹੀ ਢੁਕਵੇਂ ਵਾਤਾਵਰਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਪਰਦਾਨ ਕਰ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ, ਕੈਂਪਸ ਵਿੱਚ 70+ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਖੋਜ ਵਿਭਾਗ/ਚੇਅਰਾਂ ਹਨ, ਇਸ ਨਾਲ 27 ਖੇਤਰੀ ਕੇਂਦਰ/ ਨੇਬਰਹੁੱਡ ਕੈਂਪਸ/ਕਾਨਸਟੀਚੀਊਐਂਟ ਕਾਲਜ ਅਤੇ 278 ਕਾਲਜ ਜੁੜੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ।

Accordingly, the University has given a major emphasis on the promotion and development of Punjabi language, literature, art and culture. In order to fulfil this objective, besides the establishment of a teaching Department of Punjabi, the University has set up a number of research departments/centres & cells such as Department of Punjabi Development and under this Text book Cell and Translation Cell, Department of Punjabi Literary Studies, Department of Punjab Historical Studies, Department of Lexicography, Centre for Advanced Media Studies, etc.
For the promotion of art and culture, the teaching departments such as department of Theatre and Television, Department of Music, Department of Dance and Department of Fine Arts have been established in the University. Two TV films, one on the Painting Traditions of Punjab and the other on Excavation in Singhol have been undertaken for the promotion of art & culture of Punjab.
At UG level, Punjabi has been introduced as a compulsory subject for all the courses. At PG level in many courses students can also opt Punjabi as a medium of examination. Even M. Phil/Ph.D. thesis can be submitted in Punjabi language except in the case of languages other than Punjabi.
In order to promote Punjabi language, literature, art and culture, Punjabi University has launched a Punjabipedia Project and has started a new website punjabipedia.org.To know the meaning of English in Punjabi, the University has started Online English-Punjabi Dictionary.
The University has started online programme (Let’s Learn Punjabi) to learn Punjabi in Gurmukhi Script through Research Centre for Punjabi Language Technology. To make it easier to learn computer in Punjabi for those people who know Punjabi, the University has started an online programme “Punjabi Computer Help Centre”.
ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਵਿਚ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਭਾਸ਼ਾ, ਸਾਹਿਤ, ਕਲਾ ਅਤੇ ਸੱਭਿਆਚਾਰ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਚਾਰ ਅਤੇ ਵਿਕਾਸ ਲਈ ਉਚੇਚੇ ਤੌਰ ਤੇ ਧਿਆਨ ਦਿਤਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਮੰਤਵ ਨੂੰ ਪੂਰਾ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਲਈ, ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਭਾਸ਼ਾ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਦੀ ਸਥਾਪਨਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ-ਨਾਲ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਨੇ ਬਹੁਤ ਸਾਰੇ ਖੋਜ ਵਿਭਾਗਾਂ/ਕੇਂਦਰਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਸੈਲਾਂ ਦੀ ਸਥਾਪਨਾ ਕੀਤੀ ਗਈ, ਜਿਵੇਂ ਕਿ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਵਿਕਾਸ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਅਤੇ ਇਸ ਦੇ ਅਧੀਨ ਟੈਕਸਟ ਬੁੱਕ ਸੈੱਲ ਅਤੇ ਟ੍ਰਾਂਸਲੇਸ਼ਨ ਸੈੱਲ, ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਸਾਹਿਤ ਅਧਿਐਨ ਵਿਭਾਗ, ਪੰਜਾਬ ਇਤਿਹਾਸ ਅਧਿਐਨ ਵਿਭਾਗ, ਕੋਸ਼ਕਾਰੀ ਵਿਭਾਗ, ਸੈਂਟਰ ਫਾਰ ਅਡਵਾਂਸ ਮੀਡੀਆ ਸਟੱਡੀਜ਼, ਆਦਿ।
ਸਾਹਿਤ ਅਤੇ ਕਲਾ ਦੇ ਵਾਧੇ ਲਈ, ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਕੈਂਪਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਕਈ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਸਥਾਪਿਤ ਕੀਤੇ ਗਏ ਹਨ ਜਿਵੇਂ ਕਿ ਟੈਲੀਵਿਜਨ ਅਤੇ ਥੀਏਟਰ ਵਿਭਾਗ, ਸੰਗੀਤ ਵਿਭਾਗ, ਡਾਂਸ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਅਤੇ ਫਾਈਨ ਆਰਟ ਵਿਭਾਗ । ਪੰਜਾਬ ਦੀ ਕਲਾ ਅਤੇ ਸੱਭਿਆਚਾਰ ਦਾ ਵਿਕਾਸ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਨੇ ਦੋ ਟੀ.ਵੀ ਫਿਲਮਾਂ ਬਣਾਉਣੀਆਂ ਆਰੰਭ ਕੀਤੀਆਂ ਹਨ ਜਿਹਨਾਂ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਇੱਕ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਚੀਨ ਚਿੱਤਰਕਾਰੀ ਅਤੇ ਦੂਜੀ ਸੰਘੋਲ ਵਿਚ ਖੁਦਾਈ ਨਾਲ ਸੰਬੰਧਿਤ ਹੈ।
ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਰਿਸਰਚ ਸੈਂਟਰ ਫਾਰ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਲੈਂਗੂਏਜ ਤਕਨਾਲੋਜੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ, ਗੁਰਮੁਖੀ ਲਿੱਪੀ ਵਿਚ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਸਿੱਖਣ ਲਈ ਇੱਕ ਆਨਲਾਈਨ ਪ੍ਰੋਗਰਾਮ (ਆਓ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਸਿੱਖੀਏ) ਆਰੰਭ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ। ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਨੇ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਜਾਣਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਵਿਅਕਤੀਆਂ ਲਈ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਕੰਪਿਊਟਰ ਸਿੱਖਣ ਨੂੰ ਸੌਖਾ ਬਨਾਉਣ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਆਨਲਾਈਨ ਪ੍ਰੋਗਰਾਮ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਕੰਪਿਊਟਰ ਸਹਾਇਤਾ ਕੇਂਦਰ ਆਰੰਭ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ।
To promote Punjabi language, literature and culture, the University organises every year the following conferences:
ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਭਾਸ਼ਾ, ਸਾਹਿਤ ਅਤੇ ਕਲਾ ਨੂੰ ਉਤਸ਼ਾਹਿਤ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਹਰ ਸਾਲ ਹੇਠ ਲਿਖੀਆਂ ਕਾਨਫਰੰਸਾਂ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਬੰਧ ਕਰਦੀ ਹੈ:
The University has established Bhai Vir Singh Chair to promote Punjabi Literature. Annual lectures on prominent Punjabi writers such as Bhai Kahan Singh Nabha, Professor Harbhajan Singh and Prof Pritam Singh have been organized.
To promote the tradition of Gurmat Sangeet, the University has established exclusive department of Gurmat Sangeet. To preserve and promote the all inclusive treasure of Gurmat Sangeet, the University has started Gurmat Gyan online Teaching. For this Bhai Randhir Singh online Gurmat Sangeet Library has also been established by Gurmat Sangeet Chair.
ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਸੰਗੀਤ ਦੀ ਰੀਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਚਾਰਨ ਲਈ ਇਸ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਨੇ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਸੰਗੀਤ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਸਥਾਪਤ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ। ਗੁਰਮਤ ਸੰਗੀਤ ਦੇ ਮਹਾਨ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ ਦੀ ਸਾਂਭ-ਸੰਭਾਲ ਅਤੇ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਵਿਕਸਤ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਨੇ ਆਨਲਾਈਨ ਗਿਆਨ ਦੀ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਆਰੰਭ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੈ। ਇਸੇ ਮਿਸ਼ਨ ਨੂੰ ਹੋਰ ਸਫਲ ਬਨਾਉਣ ਲਈ ਭਾਈ ਰਣਧੀਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਆਨਲਾਈਨ ਗੁਰਮਤ ਸੰਗੀਤ ਲਾਇਬ੍ਰੇਰੀ ਵੀ ਸਥਾਪਤ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੈ।
Besides this, the University was the first in the region to establish a teaching department Shri Guru Gobind Singh Department of Religious Studies.This is housed in Guru Gobind Singh Bhawan. It offers Master level and M.Phil programmes in Hinduism, Buddhism, Christianity, Islam, Jainism and Sikhism.
ਇਸ ਤੋਂ ਇਲਾਵਾ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਧਾਰਮਿਕ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਦਾ ਸ਼੍ਰੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਸਿੰਘ ਡਿਪਾਰਟਮੈਂਟ ਆਫ ਰਿਲੀਜਨ ਸਟੱਡੀਜ ਅਧਿਐਨ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਸਥਾਪਤ ਕਰਨ ਦੇ ਖੇਤਰ ਵਿਚ ਮੋਹਰੀ ਹੈ। ਇਹ ਗੁਰੂ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਸਿੰਘ ਭਵਨ ਵਿਚ ਸਥਾਪਿਤ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਮਾਸਟਰ ਪੱਧਰ ਅਤੇ ਐੱਮ. ਫਿਲ ਪੱਧਰ ਦੇ ਹਿੰਦੂ, ਬੁੱਧ, ਕ੍ਰਿਸਚੀਅਨ, ਇਸਲਾਮ, ਜੈਨ ਅਤੇ ਸਿੱਖ ਧਰਮ ਸਬੰਧੀ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ/ਖੋਜ ਪ੍ਰੋਗਰਾਮ ਚਲਾਏ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
For carrying out research in Sikhism, special research departments such as Guru Granth Sahib Studies and Encyclopaedia of Sikhism have also been established. The University has also released a set of four volumes, on Encyclopaedia of Sikhism prepared by a renowned Professor Late Sardar Harbans Singh.
ਸਿੱਖ ਧਰਮ ਸਬੰਧੀ ਖੋਜ ਲਈ, ਵਿਸ਼ੇਸ਼ ਖੋਜ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਜਿਵੇਂ ਕਿ ਗੁਰੂ ਗ੍ਰੰਥ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਸਟੱਡੀਜ ਅਤੇ ਇਨਸਾਈਕਲੋਪੀਡੀਆ ਆਫ ਸਿੱਖਇਜ਼ਮ ਸਥਾਪਤ ਕੀਤੇ ਜਾ ਚੁੱਕੇ ਹਨ। ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਸਿੱਖਇਜ਼ਮ ਸਬੰਧੀ ਇਨਸਾਈਕਲੋਪੀਡੀਆ ਦੀਆਂ ਚਾਰ ਸੈਚੀਆਂ ਤਿਆਰ ਅਤੇ ਰਿਲੀਜ਼ ਕੀਤੀਆਂ ਜਾ ਚੁੱਕੀਆਂ ਹਨ ਜੋ ਕਿ ਉੱਘੇ ਪ੍ਰੋਫ਼ੈਸਰ ਸਵਰਗਵਾਸੀ ਸਰਦਾਰ ਹਰਬੰਸ ਸਿੰਘ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਤਿਆਰ ਕੀਤੀਆਂ ਗਈਆਂ ਹਨ।
Taking into consideration the need of the hour, the University has introduced a number of new courses in the areas of Engineering, Management, Computer Science, Social Sciences, Advanced Media Studies, Hospitality and Hotel Management, Certificate Course in Guru Granth Sahib Studies. The University has also established Regional Centres, Neighbourhood Campuses and Constituent Colleges in the rural and remote areas such as Damdama Sahib, Jaito, Dehlan Sian, Joga Ralla and Jhunir. The goal is to take professional and job oriented courses to the door steps of the rural students and students of disadvantaged sections of the society.
ਸਮੇਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਲੋੜਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਧਿਆਨ ਵਿਚ ਰੱਖਦੇ ਹੋਏ, ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਨੇ ਕਈ ਖੇਤਰਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਬਹੁਤ ਸਾਰੇ ਨਵੇਂ ਕੋਰਸ ਜਿਵੇਂ ਕਿ ਇੰਜਨੀਅਰਿੰਗ, ਮੈਨੇਜਮੈਂਟ, ਕੰਪਿਊਟਰ ਸਾਇੰਸ, ਐਡਵਾਂਸਡ ਮੀਡੀਆ ਸਟੱਡੀਜ, ਹੌਸਪੀਟੈਲਿਟੀ ਅਤੇ ਹੋਟਲ ਮੈਨੇਜਮੈਂਟ, ਗੁਰੂ ਗ੍ਰੰਥ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਸਟੱਡੀਜ ਦਾ ਸਰਟੀਫੀਕੇਟ ਕੋਰਸ ਆਰੰਭ ਕੀਤੇ ਹਨ। ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਨੇ ਪੇਂਡੂ ਇਲਾਕਿਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਦੂਰ ਦੁਰਾਡੇ ਦੇ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਰਿਜਨਲ ਸੈਂਟਰ, ਨਿਹਬਰਹੁੱਡ ਕੈਂਪਸ ਅਤੇ ਕੌਨਸਟੀਚਿਊਐਂਟ ਕਾਲਜ ਵੀ ਸਥਾਪਤ ਕੀਤੇ ਹਨ, ਜਿਵੇਂ ਕਿ ਦਮਦਮਾ ਸਾਹਿਬ, ਜੈਤੋ, ਦਹਿਲਾਂ ਸੀਆਂ, ਜੋਗਾ ਰੱਲਾ ਅਤੇ ਝੁਨੀਰ। ਇਸਦਾ ਟੀਚਾ ਪੇਸ਼ਾਵਰ ਅਤੇ ਕਿੱਤਾ ਮੁਖੀ ਕੋਰਸਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪੇਂਡੂ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਨਕਾਰੀਆਂ ਸ਼੍ਰੇਣੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਦਰਾਂ ਤਕ ਪਹੁੰਚਾਉਂਣਾ ਹੈ।
Students participate in sports, cultural, co-curricular and extra-curriculur activities at different levels. Many of these activities like Lok Mela, Lok Khedan (Local Sports), Folk Dances, etc. promote Punjabi art and culture.
ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀ ਵੱਖੋ ਵੱਖ ਪੱਧਰਾਂ ਉੱਤੇ ਖੇਡਾਂ, ਸੱਭਿਆਚਾਰਕ ਗਤੀਵਿਧੀਆਂ, ਰਲਵੇਂ ਪਾਠਕ੍ਰਮਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਵਾਧੂ ਪਾਠਕ੍ਰਮਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਭਾਗ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ। ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਬਹੁਤੀਆਂ ਗਤੀਵਿਧੀਆਂ ਜਿਵੇਂ ਕਿ ਲੋਕ ਮੇਲਾ, ਲੋਕ ਖੇਡਾਂ (ਸਥਾਨਕ ਖੇਡਾਂ), ਫੋਕ ਡਾਂਸ ਆਦਿ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਕਲਾ ਅਤੇ ਸੱਭਿਆਚਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਉਤਸ਼ਾਹਤ ਕਰਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ।
